It is interesting how the contrast and brightness adjustments create halos and separations in the background. Painters have the same issues.

I like the photo. Very three dimensional. The cat tails seem to be moving.

I ranked this picture very high. To find out it is such a long telephoto is surprising. This sort of subject makes me think of how the commercial photog being paid by the owner/user would want it to look, and how does this photog present it. The western sunset, when almost red, suggests fire and also strong feelings of pride or anger. The sea is real and eternal. The black oil tower that most of us hate is the object of pride for some. Is it setting or here forever? It could also be in a New Yorker ad for bourbon. "After a hard day's work it's good to kick back with Bullitt."

This photo is wonderful. It looks like a Hopper painting. The actions and mood of the people blend with the futuristic concrete wave control structures to create an art deco almost German expressionist atmosphere. Everyone doing their job in the fading light. It also looks like a stage set for a fantastic dance performance.

The play of the light at dawn in this location is nice. I have a similar shot at Staten Island in 2013 when there is no smoke or clouds but the dawn valley mist was on the ground and reflected in the flooded field. I can send a copy to anyone who sends me their email address. If there is a way to share a photo via panchellenge, please let me know. My email is alex@vanbroeklaw.com.

I was going to make this photo my #2 choice but lost it along with others from my screen. I am still not clear on how to use the panachallenge software. Sorry.

I like this photo because it is the essence of silhouette: a crystal clear mystery.

Thanks for all the feedback. I like this shot for two reasons: even with the bad fire our migration every fall to see the birds worked again; and the movement of the bird flapping its wings changed the surface to make a pool of light. I did not see that but the camera did.
