Astounded this didn't finish in the top 3! Maybe more antennae (vertical height about the head)??? Anyway, this to me was better than the first place entry so be proud of this one!

This looks like something straight out of a Sci-Fi movie like Aliens. Terrific detail and great crop.

    Wonderfully close up.

Beautifully focussed for a scary result. I hope I don't meet him in my dreams!

with the view point so close the front legs have been chainsawed
good capture nonetheless

I think that I would have liked this better if the entire bug was in focus and somewhat less tightly cropped. Certainly a scary face and fits the theme.

Great face on this guy. A tough macro to get. I wish the eyes were the prime focus and sharper.

First off, technical details aside, this is a great shot, even for a macro. You don't get much better than this. But on those details, my first sense was that this bug is not tack sharp anywhere in the frame. Then I noticed the antennae closest to the viewer were out of focus and the legs further were out of focus, so I began to wonder if there was actually good focus in between. And I can't tell. That "nose" between the antennae looks out of focus or soft as do the eyes. The hairs at the bottom of the mandible look soft focus yet there is detail. I can't do macro so I just don't know if this is as sharp as it gets at this scale or if you could improve. Either way, you get my vote. I think this is an exceptional shot. (My No. 1)

Wow. Super sharp, colourful and in-your-face. Love it!

In your face too! Well done. Top five.

This is a very cool bug portrait. There are plenty of close-up/macro insect photographs - but here I get a sense of who this 'being' is.....nice.
