Well done - the vignetting really added to the photo - something I'd like to try in future shots, for sure

Nice finish again, Mike! This was my #2 as well. Nicely composed and executed still life with rich color.

Well done Mike. My #1, though the winner was also high in my top few. The simplicity and lack of clutter of the winners is probably what we should all aspire to.

Thanks Maike. The best bit is eating it afterwards :)

I really like the composition. A still life of some fruit is fairly boring but the composition here really adds a lot of interest.

Thanks dodrizzt. The apples are Royal Galas, and they are very nice indeed.
Lo, thank you. The dark area on the right was a vignetted black as a separate layer, leaving the whitish background around the bowl edge to show through.
Franz, Rafael, Mepo, Harpazo, thank you very much.
Jade, Thank you. The only light source was the kitchen window. Towards the end of the afternoon we get the sun in that place. The background is a white work top. The explanation for the halo around the bowl is in my reply to Lo. In Photoshop a selective colour adjustment layer has the option to strengthen the black separately in most of the main colours including the blacks. I also upped the black in ACR before saving as a Photoshop file.

    YUM!!! :-D :-D
(Translation: a great pic, very nice composition, and great PP job, certainly adds life to such common object as a fruit bowl... very well done, my #3, and I want one of those apples :-)

The composition of this shot is great - you've used the curve of the bowl to add a lot of interest to the photo. How did you get the halo effect around the edge of the bowl? It really highlights the subject.

Beautiful colors, perfect lighting and nice details.
You chose the perfect composition to make an ordinary thing look special. Very well done!

SImple, sharp and perfectly on theme. The only time I look at my fruit bowl is when I want to eat something from it, You have wrung some beauty from yours.

Love the composition - I can almost smell the apples! I also like the highlight around the edge of the bowl.

I really love this one. I like the moody shadows. :) I also like how the one apple is upside down.

I think this is very well taken, well lit, well composed, with a perfectly balanced natural look in the colours. Well done.

Edit. Hope you see this comment. I've come back to this one with two questions since I can't figure out the superb lighting. First, what was your light source and where was it placed, and how did you get that light band around the outside of the bowl but dark leading into the frame? Second, how did you deepen the blacks in PP?
