Sorry if you decided to quit and even more sorry if you quit for the reason you give. The placing of your entry means very little since after they pick the first 5 favorites most members place the remaining five almost randomly. Suggesting that your entry should have finished higher because you think other entries were worse than yours is not a good way to go. You should only be concerned about whether YOU are satisfied with it. Was it the best that you could do? That is a question for you and you alone. You should look at your own entry in isolation and decide whether it could be improved. In other words you should strive to make anything of yours the best that you can personally achieve.
I'm in the process of re-writing a story that everyone tells me is terrific. I'm re-writing it because I know that I can do even better. There is no greater feeling for me than to complete something and know that I have done my best.
When I used to take over a new troop of men in the army I would give them the same speech that I gave every other group I had ever led. I would say " I have always had the best group in any organization that I have been in. Whether it was boy scouts or paratroops, they have always been the best. This troop is going to be the best. I will not accept anything else. I will do my best for you and I expect you to do your best for me and the other members of this troop. Either do your best or leave. End of story".
I have no idea how old you are or how much experience you have or more importantly what your dreams are but if you are going to let this experience make you quit I can only hope you don't have the same attitude to the rest of your life, for your own sake.
I'm 77 and am still trying to do my best, and enjoying every minute of it.

O' well, guess this will be my 'last entry.' I am not sure how [at least] four other entries got more votes than my pic. I understand 'constructed criticisms' but... I don't get it. :-(

Nice "storytelling" shot, though arrangement of the elements seems a bit formal/contrived.

Compositionally, the cropping nips at the edges of almost everything in the frame which actually draws the eye out of the frame trying to complete the object. Either tighter or wider framing might be preferable.
