Post-Processing: To capture “fire”, an 8” x 11” piece of plate glass was placed on top of an 8” x 11” piece of black paper. A black composition board was placed perpendicular to the plate glass to reflect black onto the glass. A DMC GX-8 with a Lumix 30-100mm zoom lens on a tripod was used to focus on a bottle with a label that was placed approximately 4” from the junction of the glass and composition board. Now for the fun. The bottle was removed, room lights turned off, a linear stream of Ronson’s lighter fluid was squirted on the glass where the bottle originally was, the fluid was lit with a match and the GX-8 shutter was fired remotely via WiFi on my iphone. Numerous images were captured in RAW.

RAW files of fire were converted in Adobe RAW. Decreased shadows; increased highlights, increased contrast; filter-unsharp mask; blended two images using the auto-blend function in Photoshop, to make the composite fire photograph. RAW files of the waterscape and air were processed in a similar manner and the fire image was overlaid on a single waterscape image.
Extra Info: This is my interpretation of the elements water, air and fire. It is entitled “In the Beginning”, which conveys hope. The “fire” photograph is a blend of two images of flames, which was was overlaid on a landscape of water and clouds. The latter represents water and air, respectively.

An interesting effect. I particularly like the pattern of the flames, but overall I see a competition between two separate photos, not a blending.

I like this entry better than your other one (which I saw first) both as an image and conceptually. I prefer these flames too. I love the layered sunset in the background. Well up in my faves.

I can't decide if I like this effect. The sunset ocean is so beautiful on its own.
