Reeve's Pheasant       ©2018 aoc46
Panasonic DMC-FZ200       4th place, 121 points
1/500s, f5.6, ISO 100, ?, Aperture Priority, Spot, no flash

Post-Processing: Slight adjustments to color, exposure during RAW conversion, increase eye brightness and contrast, straighten, clone out background distraction, crop, resize, sharpen.       Extra Info: Native to China, the Reeves' Pheasant was introduced to Europe in 1831. This one resides in a European animal park.

No doubt some would prefer to see the entire bird, but I felt this close-up crop made a more dramatic image - less like a nature guide illustration. I'll put the whole-bird view in the outtakes.

What a glorious plumage! I'd imagine the poor thing is hunted relentlessly for those beautiful feathers. Would have been nicer to have bit more light on the face, but this image surely brings out the gold feathers.

A beautiful bird for sure... and well photographed. the yellow feathers are very distinct which I think makes the image work so well. I'm curious if you played with dodge and burn on the head especially the area between front of eye and beak, it seems just a bit dark

I like what you got here, almost like a paint instead a photo. My only wish were some more light on the head, mainly on the eye. But great image anyway, well done!

i would have been harsher in the crop as the red catches the eye but doesn't draw eye across

Beautiful pheasant. IMHO the birds head good be a bit lighter to bring out the eye. Yellow plumage seems to dominate the image. Nonetheless, a great shot.

Love the colouring and lots of detail in the plumage.

i like the close up, and the composition, but i think the yellow part overpowers both the red and the head.

Maybe lifting shadows slightly on those parts would have helped?

This bird's eye and surrounding area are naturally very dark. I have already lightened it considerably in PP but was afraid that to push any farther would look phony.

Beautiful colours and very sharp. It is a pity that the head seems to disappear in the photo. I would have lightened it a bit.

I love this except for the lack of light on the eye. I think a little post processing could fix that.
