Swimming Pool of the Rich and Famous       ©2017 ysal
Panasonic DMC-GX7       4th place, 135 points
1/20s, f5.6, ISO 800, 40mm, Aperture Priority, Pattern, no flash
Post-Processing: Cropped; corrected lens distortion and straightened; brightened shadows; darkened highlights in the windows; increased saturation; sharpened; resized       Extra Info: William Randolph Hearst owned 250,000 acres of land in the Central California coast where he built his famous “castle”. Along with the castle, Mr Hearst once had a private zoo where exotic animals were kept. Few of them escaped and there is a herd of wild zebras which can sometimes be seen today from the freeway. The property is now a California State Park which is open to public tours.

This is the indoor Roman Pool, which seemed a little spooky for me to take a dip in.

Thank you so much for your votes and kind comments!

I may have over saturated the colors a bit, but it brought out the extravagant beauty of the place, I felt.

joshd - Yes, the room was quite dark, and this was handheld.

I thought this one looked somewhat Comynesque! Congrats on your high finish.

You've composed this beautifully to take full advantage of the reflections in the pool. Great detail and colour.

Love the symmetry in this image, among my favorites ... what an incredible building! Looks a little bit noisy to my eyes ... possibly would have benefitted from a lower ISO and slower shutter time if you had a tripod ... if it was hand held then good job keeping it steady at 1/20s ;-)

I love everything about this picture, the reflection, the colors, the framing, the lighting, just everything! Congrats!

A beautiful scene but the composition and exposure are what puts this high in my favs. Very well done.

Great color and exposure - as I recall, it's rather dark and contrasty in there. While all that reflection is nice, the composition would be improved IMO with a horizontal view that makes the window the focus of attention.

A special place and a grand photo capture of it. Just lovely. You actually took a dip in it? Didn't think they let the public do that (or maybe you're the caretaker?- ha!).

It really looks grand. Great use of reflection, pattern and colors.

Beautiful example of "reflection photography" How is the pool water so still? Well done.

in places like this you often don't know which direction to point first. great capture.

Ornate impressive. Color balance seems off or maybe it's a grunge effect like seen in hdr

The yellow/green shapes you see are part of the tile work on the bottom of the pool that is made to look like an ornate Persian rug.

beautiful subject, and I like the interplay between the green logos (on the pool bottom?) and the reflection

Very nice. A strong composition. Among my favs.

Beautiful interior and photo. The depth of the reflection gives the feeling of very deep water, although I know that has nothing to do with it. Interesting notes. In my faves.
