Toast 1960 Style       ©2017 Mepo
Panasonic DMC-ZS3       12th place, 62 points
1/30s, f4.1, ISO 250, 72mm, Normal Program, Pattern, flash

Post-Processing: Topaz Adjust filter plus increase black level slightly.       Extra Info: 1960's toaster still makes perfect toast, browned to your choice on the outside while keeping the inside moist. Then it raises it gently and automatically when it's done.

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions - appreciated :-)

These toasters were brilliantly designed. Here is a website dedicated to them:

http://automaticbeyondbelief.org/

A quote from the site" Inside, the Radiant Control thermostat monitors the heat radiated (not conducted) from the outer surface of the bread, which is directly proportional to its color change. There are no timers. The toast is raised only when it is properly toasted; no sooner and no later.

When the thermostat opens, the elements cool, and the center element wire contracts. This movement is very small on the order of thousandths of an inch but a mechanical linkage multiplies this movement approximately 175 times. This is sufficient to operate the carriage and raise the toasted bread from the toaster.

Once a person has experienced a Radiant Control toaster, the common response is, "This is how all toasters should work." One couldn't express the understated elegance of this toaster more succinctly."

I bought the toaster several years ago, stripped it down to the bare bones and got it working again. I installed a grounded power cord for extra safety. We use it every day.

One of my favourite smells. Nicely portrayed.

Very warm and homey shot! Nice to see an old toaster still in use! The toaster is losing the competition offered by the sweater-wearing teapot. It is amazing the things we take for granted that may be totally unfamiliar to others. (Never seen a teapot with clothing. Cool!)
Still slipped into my favs because I love the smell of toast!

And now for some butter and marmalade! Love all the interesting reflections

Can smell the toast! I'd have preferred to have seen less of the background and the toaster and toast larger in the frame.

Mmm! Hot toast with loads of butter. Can I order 2 slices?

Interesting old toaster. Tighter focus on just the bread slices would communicate the toast aroma more effectively. Though the tea, etc., help make a nice environmental scene, they distract from the 'smell' idea.

I think this could have benefited from being a bit less busy in the background - the frame top right, the dish top left, the text bottom left. It distracts me from focussing on the toast

Without the fire alarm going off - it's not toast!! Not enough aroma for my liking. Don't let it fall in the sink... somehow looks like the toaster, but can see by the reflections that it isn't. Your drinks cabinet appears overly full...

Wow, haven't seen one like this in a while. And look, the bread goes in cross-wise! Nice find.

I can almost smell the toast, which happens to be a pleasant scent that reminds me of my childhood. My only quarrel with this image is the detraction of the sink and the cup in the upper left of the image. I might have positioned things a bit differently.

burnt toast and no flash would put this higher for me but still in top five from me.
