Haunted Winchester house       ©2016 out_of_focus
Panasonic DMC-FZ150       8th place, 86 points
1/320s, f5, ISO 160, 25mm, Manual, Pattern, no flash
Post-Processing: HDR , mild sharpening, crop.       Extra Info: Sarah Winchester, the widow of gun magnate William Wirt Winchester built this haunted house. To divert and mislead ghosts, she built roughly 161 rooms, including 40 bedrooms, staircases leading nowhere but to ceiling 2 ballrooms (one completed and one unfinished) as well as 47 fireplaces, over 10,000 panes of glass, 17 chimneys (with evidence of two others), two basements and three elevators. Winchester's property was about 162 acres (66 ha) at one time, but the estate has since been reduced to 4.5 acres (1.8 ha) the minimum necessary to contain the house and nearby outbuildings.

Avoiding palm tree was possible; if I paid $30 and had entered the fence. I did not do, as I need to go back to my work. Also I think the ghosty statue is important feature in the photo. The HDR results were accident and I did not like them.

This is a beautiful old mansion, and I think you've captured it well. I too would have chosen to use pp for a ghostly finish, though I feel this is a bit too intense.

Very nice composition. I enjoy the bright colors except for the way the filter used renders the clouds. I assume that could be adjusted relatively easily with an appropriate filter brush.

I like the treatment which increases the ghostliness of the house.

Well composed, maybe a bit too much contrast in my opinion, interesting history. In my favorites.

A bit overdone for my taste but still in my favorites as it is a beautiful setting.

very much on theme and a full description make it even better

The pp on this is dominant; with the subject matter, i'm pleasantly reminded of an old postcard. Would like to know how you achieved the look, although the sky looks a bit 'too much' for my taste.
It is an interesting building, a shame that the tree trunk is so central and obstructing. Was it possible to avoid it?

Love the composition, esp. the placement of the foreground statue. Usually I don't like so much processing, but here it works well - gives the feeling of an antique postcard.

Thank you.
For the first time I used HDR software that created multiple effects and I made a mistake when uploading this file.
I feel exactly same like you word by word.

Not sure I am a fan of this very blurry HDR effect. I would really like to see this with the effect slightly toned down, because I think the lighting is good, and the composition is good.

I've driven by the place many times while driving up the coast but never stopped to see it. Quite a lovely place! I like the effect.
