Panasonic DMC-FZ200       5th place, 161 points
1/100s, f3.2, ISO 100, 29mm, Normal Program, Pattern, no flash
Post-Processing: Cloning to remove minor imperfections; straighten; crop; resize       Extra Info: Leaf Cutter Ants collect bits of leaves and other plant material and carry them to their nest, where the vegetation is left to ferment, producing a nutritious fungus which feeds the colony.

I included the large open area at right to give a sense of the distances the ants travel.

I so wish we had these over here. I bet this was hard to focus on if he was moving. GL.

Great correlation of the ant to your resolution. I think that negative space works too.

I share the concern about the tight crop at the bottom. Unfortunately there was a dark, rough-sawn board edge just out of the frame that would have badly affected the composition had it been shown, and fixing it would have taken more retouching than I like to do. But thanks, all, for the comments.

A tricky shot to get, congratulations.

I like the comp, maybe just a little too tight to the edge. The background texture are maybe a little strong. Otherwise very nice.

There is slight blur on the leaf with bothers me a bit. I assume from the shutter speed.. Strangely the blurry leg doesn't bother me much. I see where you were going for the resolution, but I am not sure it works. Ants don't have resolutions and I can't really see the metaphor back to human resolutions as building for ants is a daily instinct. That said, the composition is excellent, maybe a little too in the corner, but still good. I also love the lighting and texture in the wood!

Love the humour in this. Great colour, DOF and detail, I agree with your choice to give the ant room to travel. Just a minor point- you seem to have cut off two of his legs.

I understand that large open area, so well composed. In my favorites.

    So very clear, well done

This is a great shot! I would've liked to see a bit of wood below the ants feet to frame it a bit better, but still very nice. In my tt.

Nice idea but shame the subject is so low in the image to get a bit cut off at the bottom

I like the concept of the composition. Two minor comments: 1) if possible re-crop so ant's legs don't touch the frame, and 2) because the light direction puts the ant in the shadow of the leaf you might make a slight local adjustment to brighten the ant.
