#68 Looking in from the outside
Entry 4 of 23
The match       ©2009 dodrizzt
Panasonic DMC-FZ50       4th place, 82 points
1/200s, f4, ISO 100, 35mm, Normal Program, Pattern, no flash
Post-Processing: A little cropping to get rid of an undesired distraction, converted to B&W, contrast and a little shadows&highlights adjustment, applied a soft sepia tint to get some vintage effect, resize       Extra Info: It was a nice afternoon to enjoy a match and I thought it could be also an opportunity to get a pic for the theme, so spent some time wandering around until I found this one, a two-level looking in from outside, me looking at the man looking at the match...

Hydro - derived from hydraulic power or more clearly, power from the force of moving water. As you can guess, in Canada, a lot of our power comes from power stations on rivers and lakes. As Billy said - I love the richness we get from exchanges like this.

Football, soccer, rugby, Aussie rules football -, it's all the same - give them each a ball so they don't have to fight over it LOL

Hi there. Thanks for the comment on my shot. I think we are of a mind in that most of my top votes were for shots that included people. Yours, in fact, was in my TT. So I am glad to see that it finished well. I truly did not expect to see my little thing finish as well as it did. -Bill

Congratulations Billy, very nice result, though I would have expected it to end up even higher.
I feel the towers and even the cables have to be there. They fill up the sky and make your picture "from real life".
Next time call it "partido de fútbol"! We're international here ....and the guessing gets easier.... :-D

Many thanks to all of you fur such nice comments and votes, I'm really happy my two pics finished #4 :-D
-Mepo, Franz, glad to read your comments too, I was a bit ill from saturday morning (a minor flu) and hadn't almost time to vote and leave some comments before the end of voting, so couldn't response to yours either... many thanks again :-)
-Laree: seems that our Canadian friends have their own word for that electrical towers :-D I love the richness we get in Panachallenge from people all around the world, now I also have a new word ;-)
-Franz: a little funny side note, I've noticed that you used the word "soccer", I was tempted to title my pic as "The football match", but then I thought about so many people in the States and other countries that call this "soccer", as football is a completely different sport there, and decided to ignore the word and leave it just as "The match". Funny you thought similar and used "soccer" in your comment :-D

The "hydro towers" (never heard that term before) don't bother me a bit. Really good work all the way around to my eye. Congrats!

Beautiful shot with a very nice mood. The sepia-B/W treatment gives it a special "oldfashioned" look, that makes it even more interesting (looks like from the 50th).
The vertical composition is a perfect idea for this shot, as it allows to set the scene into the right context and makes it different to other soccer pictures. Very well done!

I very much like the composition and the lighting. Perfect theme fit. Can't say I like the hydro towers but that's minor.

Many thanks Jade :-) it's a great cumpliment being so high in your votes considering you've set the challenge, I'm very happy you liked my pic so much :-)
Aaahh, the electric towers... sometimes so beautiful, sometimes so distracting... ;-) I considered cloning them away, as I usually get rid of any power cable in my pics, but this time I felt the right part of the sky was somehow too "empty" without the tower, and leave both in... pityful, I could have got an extra point or two from you :-D well, doesn't matter, still very very happy with your vote, thanks again!!

I like everything about this one and your PP treatment looks masterful to me. My No. 3 which might have been higher if you had also got rid of those hydro towers.

Thanks LaRee, a nice first comment :-) glad you liked the PP, I was very doubtful on the b&w... the colour version has rich, vibrant greens, nice blue in the sky, and lots of small colour touchs in the players'equipment; but in the end, I felt that so many colours ended up distracting the eye a lot from my main subject, the man looking at the match, so decided for this one. Hope I did well :-)

Fits the theme well. I like the composition and post processing too.
