Congrats John, for the win and also to the new couple.

Congratulations for coming in at #1! A very enigmatic image.

Congratulations John. The minute I saw this shot I loved it, thje richness, the detail, the naturalness. Glad to see you in the Challenge.

Thanks Jade really appreciate your opinion, especially when it's so glowing😊. No offence taken by NEAT's comment, just thought I'd be blunt like in her comment😊.

Congrats on the win and yes it was close. Both 1st and 2nd place really engaged the viewer and no doubt that accounts for the ranking. As an aside I don't mind Anita's directness, and we all should try a monitor test which you can google on line and are very easy to use. I checked out one of Shawn's entries side by side with this one and convinced myself it was the same person, my mistake. I concede I have a long way to go to match Mepo's skills. I still think this is your best shot ever. As to the expression it is for me what takes a technically fine image and vaults it into the category of great. As enigmatic as Mona Lisa and without any negative connotation. I see a strong assertive intriguing personality. I just love this shot.

Good to see you back. We missed you! I read your previous comment. A win is a win, close or not! So congrats.

Well I guess I must just be out of touch with other people. Congratulations on first place anyway.

May the baby bring great joy.

This is a very well-done entry. The colors and sharpness are excellent. However, there is something about the lack of tiniest of a smile that disturbs me. I am at a loss in deciphering her expression.

    an excellent portrait

NEAT - She was never supposed to be happy, was not the point of the picture. Right side of her face may be bright, but it's definitely not blown. You should maybe have you monitor checked out.

Going to have to be blunt here, but she looks terribly unhappy, considering that she’s just about to give birth to a child I would’ve expected someone happier. The right side of her face is blown out also.

I do love the clothing and the props though.

This is absolutely beautiful. The colours and detail are so rich. If I were mother earth, I wouldn't be too happy either with the state of the world.

Jan 10, 2021
Mother earth does not seem to be very happy. I wonder if this is making a statement. Well composed with good lighting.

Nicely shot - makes me feel like I'm back in the '60s. Great colors.

Congratulations on a beautiful portrait. Well styled to give it a Pre-raphaelite ambience.

    Thanks everyone for the comments!

Jade, sorry not Shawn, I presume your referring to forkcandles. Anyway I'm blown away by your praise! My wife's idea, she made the outfit for our daughter in-law to be. Taken in the woods near our home, no fake backgrounds using a off camera flash in a umbrella. Was quite cold, especially for the model, only spent about 15 minutes outside the vehicle.

Or, Earth Mother. A lovely portrait with a very determined looking expression. Excellent use of color and tonal quality.

Shawn, I presume. If this doesn't top the pack I just don't know what would. I could suggest the highlights be toned down a notch but they are not blown, the colour is sublime yet vibrant, the background could be real. but it doesn't matter, this isn't Vogue photoshopped into unreality, this is honest, beautiful, demanding. She challenges the viewer, forces you to look, makes you ask the questions. The best I've seen of your work ever, by a mile, and last time I saw her she was magazine quality. Submit this to Vogue and they may give you an offer.

a stunningly beautiful lady in the later stages of pregnancy, I hope all is well and a bright future for mother and baby

Beautiful portrait in the style of the pre-Raphaelite painters.

A very professional looking portrait. Very interesting dress she is wearing. Was this for a special occasion? Very nicely shot.

Don't get many portraits, or people in shots at all actually, in the challenges, so this makes a welcome change of pace. Very nicely done portrait too. I love the colours and the woodsy background.
