Congratulations Anita. Lovely entry. Sorry if I sounded cross and grumpy and you are forgiven for your 'cynicism' ;-)
Oh, and you did get my number 1.

Thanks for all the comments, I was surprised to see this on the front page, I didnít think it would win due to some of the critical comments. Have to admit I couldíve fixed quite a few of those problems, I shot this very early on, and I saw the problems later but you know what I was just too lazy to change it :-)

Great photo NEAT, and added commentary too! Kudos for fighting off 2nd place by the slimmest of margins.

Great image, would like more space at the right side to show the other edge of the bible

This is a very strong image. I like the composition and the heavy post processing. The highlights in the hands could use a bit of toning down.

Very pro looking but the degree of processing in the hands bothers me quite a bit as the hands look unreal, to me at least.

The over-cooked post-processing works surprisingly well in this image and gives it a strong, bold character that I like, it's very expressive. My only wish were a bit more negative space at the top, to give a bit more place to the hands. But great job anyway, well done!

Extremely evocative image. I like the sepia treatment as it lends to the solemn nature of this image. Well conceived and carried out. In my TT's.

Slightly golden lighting lends the image a preciousness.

Captures the theme perfectly. Gets my vote.

Nice concept, well-composed and executed. Small point: while the stripes on the cushion(?) under the bible do act as leading lines, they seem a bit busy; maybe just darkening that area would fix it.

@Jomari, sorry for coming across as cynical, please forgive me :) I know a lot of people do read their bibles to be sure, but Iíve heard others say they donít understand it so they just give up.

Did you know that some other sources say that the Quran pips the bible? It seems that figures for both are pretty fuzzy anyway.
I think your opinion that 5 billion of those 5 billion bibles haven't been read is pretty cynical. Millions of Christians through the ages have devotedly read and reread their bibles.
Aside from the rest of my comment, I have to say your entry is great. Probably my number 1.

Good image and on theme. in focus and well lit, the shallow depth of field seems to work here as dose the vignetting. In my T5.
