Post-Processing:
Shot raw. Developed in LR. Exported and finished in Silver Efex Pro 2.
Shot with a Rokinon 7.5mm lens @ 1/640 sec. The lens is manual so f-stop is not captured by camera. Probably between f/3.5 and f/5.6.
Extra Info:
This giant, old Live Oak tree is on the property of a dear friend -- an 85 year old widow who lives alone and manages a 23-acre property along with 5 donkeys, 6 chickens, 1 rooster, and a dog. I see this tree as representing her strength and endurance and her protection of the land and all the creatures under her care.
F-stop details are in 'Post processing info' - Admin.

Such beautiful detail on this old tree - well done!

My first place choice. Great job as always. Love the fish-eye effect.

Good way to capture the might and majesty of the tree. I like the little surrounding details of garden furniture and mules. It would be a lovely spot to picnic.

Love the effect. The sky looks a bit 'muddy' near the centre. Maybe burned in highlights a bit much?

Lo: Some folks live in a rectilinear world and some don't.
Old Finn: Some folks find fisheye distortion distracting and some find this kind of 'breaking the rules' interesting. Oh, that's the next challenge theme!
Robert L: You're right -- the color version is amazing.
alis nocturnis: I wanted the tree to fill the entire frame. As for the fisheye view, the lens projection covers the entire 4/3 sensor area so you cannot get a circular image with dark corners as you might get on a full frame sensor.
A.N.Other - No, just clouds.

The detail you have captured in the tree is amazing. Unfortunately, the fish-eye effect is a spoiler for me.

It is a great effect you have put on this photo to make it a bit different. The tones also go through from black to white and there are many of them. A perfect photo.

Otherways interesting picture, but the fisheye distortion is a bit distgracting.

Wonderful use of a wide angle to capture the tree and surroundings. I suspect this will work well in color but the B&W is quite effective. High in my TT's.

I like use of the fish-eye lens

The magnificent tree would be better served if it were shown whole with some sky to frame it. Or, if there has to be barrel effect donkeys and garden furniture, why not show the complete circle/sphere? Anyway, in my favourites.

Nicely done. The fish-eye adds a neat effect; consider adding a slight vignette to enhance it.

Superb textures and details. The perspective effect is very nice and I love the donkeys in the background. Very nice shot !

that's a really interesting picture - and nice to hear the backstory behind the title.
real great use of the distorting effects of the lens
