Post-Processing:
Overall exposure down, shadows up, whites up, slight adjustment of WB toward cool, graduated filters to bring up exposure of foreground and another on the sky to increase contrast and clarity. Increased sharpness. Added a vignette.
Extra Info:
Tired of going through old photos for this challenge so I just took a new one. It was cold and clear. I saw a herd of deer and a couple rabbits with my flashlight. Also heard some coyotes howling and cows mooing. The streak in the sky is an airplane of course. The stars aren't pinpoint sharp because of the long exposure, but this is more about capturing the mood. The corn stubble fortuitously provideleading lines into the scene and add to the depth. The city lights glow worked well to silhouette the trees.

mrsawyer: The shot was taken at 10:30 pm. Those are lights from the city nearby.

What a nice presentation. The plane adds dramatically, as it reminds me of a meteor streaking the sky.
What time of night was this taken? There seems to be so much light.

I like the mood. Even if you cropped just above the cornfield with only the bottom of the trees up to the branches would be a cool picture for me.

Love it. The leading lines, trees and stars, even the place overhead all work well together.. In my TT.

I'm sure the 14mm and natural lie of the land has something to do with it but the land looks a little off angle somehow. I am also troubled by the star trails which at 60 sec seems inevitable. I assume you had to balance a higher ISO against a grainier photograph? (Still pretty good for just going out to shoot a fresh shot!)

Very cool and don't mind that the shooting star is a plane.

Perfect composition makes this shot.

What is the strange blue glow in the centre?

Very nice - excellent composition, exposure, etc. My only nits are that the white barn(?) is a little distracting, and low hill behind gives an illusion that the scene is tilted when it isn't.

Yes, at 60s you will get star trails. I find no more than 30s works. You probably could have used faster shutter speed, then lightened up the corn field to get similar effects. Still, this is really well done. The airplane almost looks like a shooting star and adds a nice touch here.

this is high on my list
it is not a picture of stars so no problem with the very slight movement
the other parts are well/ show up well

Great composition with the lines in the field rows plus the capture of the shooting star!

there are quick formulas for max exposure of stars without becoming trails. probably twenty seconds with higher iso would have worked well and with the subject matter, noise wouldn't have been a problem. nevertheless, this came together very nicely. and you caught orion in there too. i like it and in my favorites.
