Young Girl on an Old Horse       ©2016 jomari
Panasonic DMC-FZ70       6th place, 106 points
1/59s, f5.5, ISO 160, 183mm, Aperture Priority, Pattern, no flash
Post-Processing: Convert to black and white using individual sliders, increase detail and contrast, clone out a few clumps of horse leavings.       Extra Info: This old horse, Beatle, belongs to my twin granddaughters, but they are 1999 models, so I couldn't shoot them. In the original one of them is walking beside Beatle, supervising the enjoyment of her young (just turned 5) friend.

What a cute subject. Not quite as sharp as it could be, maybe motion blur? Looking at the EXIF 1/59 is pretty slow, even with lens IS, that is slow for any movement. I would think boosting the ISO and getting a faster shutter speed would help.

This is a beautiful shot that this young lady will treasure for many years to come. I like the choice of B&W, which emphasizes the play of light and shadows. The focus seems to be a bit off, but otherwise a great shot.

sitting pretty and appears to be enjoying it
not shot in the UK as she is not wearing a compulsory helmet

well, the 2011 model is nicely captured. Like what I read as mixed feelings: happy but somewhat apprehensive look on her face. Great back lit hair despite some highlights blown.

Small girl on a big horse - a classic shot!

Love the contrast of the sun on her hair against the dark background, among my favs.

Highlights are very strong and distracting, very interesting expression you captured! I we the photo is also a little blurry, which might be the shutter speed. 1/60 is a little slow for a moving subject at 183mm. I would say 1/200 is a minimum here.

This is beautiful set and a fine candid capture....the side lighting can be tricky in direct sun and you can see why here...the blown highlights and too soft focus hurt this one, I think....

Good memories here, I'm sure. I like the atmosphere of the shot and the obvious enjoyment of the rider. The backlight to her gold hair is beautiful. The motion blur is unfortunate as is the defined background. I hope you will share some outtakes with us. It looks like it was an enjoyable day.
