not a large number of entries but i think those who participated had a fun challenge. and i had good feeling about a pre digital lens that i used on this shot.

i was having trouble getting the drawer to come out square. if the lens wasn't perpendicular to the center of the drawer, it would come out narrower on one side... trapezoid. this was the best i could get but also was blocking light from overhead light fixture which i think caused that lower right corner to look grey and hazy.

natural afternoon light muted through blinds on window. you know i don't like to use a flash. used an older zuiko 50mm 1.4 on my olympus. great in low light, colors always look natural, narrow dof, and maybe looks 'soft' to many viewers, but i like to pull it out for certain projects. i knew it would be narrow dof so i put focus on bart's eyes.

doesn't really surprise me how many of us have used batteries in their junk drawers. good one.

before cell phones, when the kids were young, i was running late and trying to call the sitter for an hour and just getting busy line at the house. when i finally got home i could see her through the window with phone cradled by her ear and trying desperately (with a flat knife from the kitchen) to get into a drawer on a desk in the front room that had a 'secret lock'. she couldn't figure it out. and it was her last night watching my boys. it probably had similar contents along with a checkbook.

you could use that label maker to make new labels for these drawers.
love the old cabinet.

i like this. definitely stands out from the others. i did an egg shot on the last challenge and got a little flack about leaving the light source in the shot. will be interesting to see other comments. i like the light in there as well as all the refracted spots. nice take on the theme.

wow, this is good. this is very close to the contents of one of my junk drawers. nice to have a little insight to part of the personal world of other members here.

i seem to have two battery drawers now... one for new ones and one that seems to collect the used ones that i would feel too guilty if i just dropped them in the trash. need to find that place that accepts used batteries.
good shot.

now that looks more like the contents of one of my junk drawers. the flash is a bit harsh. although i tried to do a stop action shot of dumping my junk drawer hoping to catch things in mid air.... no good... and most of the attempts looked more like your entry. good entry.

nice. stands out right away. i couldn't get the right light in my garage tool area so opted for a drawer in the house.

hey, i reworked your portrait. can't seem to figure how to email to you with our set up here so here is a link to see it or i could post it in out takes. let me know what you think if it makes it more 'simple' or not.

hey thanks all who took time to vote and comment. much appreciated.
mepo.... more like a roller coaster with a win, then a dead last, and now a good finish again.
this wasn't as easy to pull off as it may look. if i kept all of my workflow shots, i'll share in outtakes as it was interesting process.
thanks again,

dave, you need to edit out that last line of your comment. obviously your thinking is spot on with these challenges.... eight entries and six of them in the top ten finishes!
a lot of different takes on the theme. i think what held me back on placement of yours was the line in the description of the challenge that read... "freedom from complexity or intricacy". the details on the insect being very intricate.
it is a great shot along with your other nature shots that are hard to top.

ysal, nice going!!!! pretty sure i had this pegged for first place. and i don't mind the negative space on the right. it could easily be used as a greeting card with some message or poetry written in that area. (think i made similar comment to someone else) it is one of those shots that should have a life outside of our challenge. well done.

i don't know where i'm placing this. you have taken some very nice flattering photos of her. just my thoughts... perhaps bw conversion would push this more to the theme for me. i don't know. but great photo.

one of the few outdoor shots that gets the theme correctly (imo). i like it and the processing and it goes in my favorites.

lower iso might eliminate some of the noise in the background and a little bit tighter aperture to make focus sharper around the subject. still, i like it and in my favorites for getting (what i thought) the theme right.

well composed and exposed. fits the theme and in my favorites. and i wouldn't worry about the light area on the left. i see your use of a stove cooktop... nice going.

i like the photo and her gaze. (don't like seeing toes cut off). looks like many entries interpret 'simplicity' in different ways. i think i'd try to minimize the number of elements that may distract from your subject.
