Spire       ©2009 wrosenthal
Panasonic DMC-FZ35       18th place, 26 points
1/1300s, f8, ISO 125, 486mm, Landscape, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: Foreground darkened slightly, and minimal cropping.       Extra Info: I see this church spire at least twice each day when I take my dog out for a walk. On this particular day the sun was setting in the exact correct position and the atmospherics were cooperative.

A very nice example of how the correct daytime can transform an almost uninteresting object onto a very nice pic, the lovely sunset this time is not the main subject but the perfect background that creates an "spiritual" image... high in my TT, well done!!

This reminds me of the house silhouette shot earlier. Similar take. I think a more aggressive crop might be more dramatic

Thanks, Mepo. The noise at the bottom is what is left of some lens flare. I tried to burn it out, but obviously it did not work well. Another example of something NOT showing up on my monitor, but very evident when posted to the web site. Sorry about that. By the time I noticed it, it was too late to retrieve it and fix it.

I like this better when I crop away a full 1/4 of the right side and bottom. However I think you captured an ordinary object in a very artistic fashion. I like the photo and including it in my tt. Question - there is a pink blob at the base of the spire with 4 dark holes in it - can you tell me what it is? Are we back to ghosts and spirits :-)

Thank you , Jade, for your comment. Perhaps you might consider that the circumstance of the photograph is what made this ordinary church spire something more than boring. I assumed, also, that had I 'missed the theme', the sponsors of this challenge would have called me on it and not validated the entry.

This is too dramatic a spire to ever be considered boring. A really nice capture that misses the theme for me for that reason.

Lovely. How nice to have everything cooperate. :)
