Post-Processing: changed the color a bit to get rid of reddish cast to the sky. boosted the brightness a little. resized.       Extra Info: this was 20 second exposure almost an hour after actual sunset. there is a fair amount of movement of the moon in that much time which fattened up the crescent a bit. the reflection is off a tidal river that can get very still and glassy in between tidal movement. wasn't completely still this night but long exposure did nice job of flattening water and reflection. i went with the greenish cast to give it an eerie feel.

Yes but calibrating for the effect of atmospheric refraction, and applying the theorum of multi-atmospheric strata variation...

When looking for a water shot a glance of the tide tables helps. I live near the River Severn and this has the 2nd highest rise and fall. tide stops still for two minutes and can go like glass. but still a nice night shot

i know... i agree. not really that spooky (you had to be there... dead calm... silence broken by large splash in the water... maybe a gator??)

i'm sure there is a small amount of blooming on the crescent which itself is overexposed, but as far as movement goes, you can do the math. there are a couple other factors that would skew the numbers but for the sake of argument, let's go with these.... moon was visible for 10.25 hours that day. convert that to seconds. divide that by 180 degrees of an arc. should give you 205 seconds to travel 1 degree. twenty seconds exposure would see .1 degree of travel. doesn't sound like alot until you remember what you are looking at and its relative size and how far away it is etc etc.

you guys are great. thanks for the comments

Beautiful image but I'm not sure you are correct about the moon moving in 20 seconds. More beautiful than spooky is how it strikes me.

I like the shot, but do not get the eerie. Just an interesting colour treatment of a peaceful scene.
