big fat gas guzzling ozone depleting dinosaur       ©2009 elliott
Kodak DX7590       5th place, 72 points
1/400s, f8, ISO 200, ?, Creative, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: straightened, cropped, split, mirrored, then stuck back together, minor cloning, slight boost in color, resized.       Extra Info: don't even get me started on this monstrosity.
anyway, background was not balanced so did this to give appearance of being parked between two elevated roadways for symmetry. but didn't want it too obvious so did minor cloning to palms and clouds.

hey thanks for the comments. always eager to get a well thought out comment from jade o.
(owner of this truck will probably put nothing more than groceries in the back.)
did a good close up of the grill that i almost used for entry but a stretch to name it 'excess self portraits' as the reflection very clearly showed me taking the photo.
... now on to interaction. thanks again. el

That is my No. 1 vote there. As boar76 guessed, this is the kind of shot I would have liked to have taken. Dramatic, well composed, on topic, in your face, simple, with an abstract pattern on the grill for real focus, beautiful!

Great 'in your face' photo. Don't be too hard on the owner - it's probably a truck he needs for work :-)

I'm a big fan of processing images when it is effective to do so. I would have gone even further to remove the overpass downspout on at least one side, even more aggressively cloned the trees to distinguish them and maybe add some off balance to the foilage much as with the cloud, and definitely I would have removed the vehicles on either side which distract greatly from a fine subject, virtually perfectly shot. Just a great image of this vehicle. [edit] O.k. I just realized the downspout is a bridge support - don't want to remove that! But I would remove the metal wire support above the fence line since they angle in opposite directions. My no. 1 pick just the same as this is a finely crafted image where the bridge background truly helps "make" the shot in an innovative yet powerful manner. In a small field of competitive entries, this entry still stands out for me.

Another fine example of excess especially in America, love our big gas guzzelers. Wonder how much we would love them if we were paying 5.00 a gallon like some countries.
