Thank you Lo and AvanBroek, you are very kind.

This collection of Open category photos is astounding. They are all worth many words or, as with No. 1, no words are necessary. This ski motion thrill photo evokes exactly what is in the view of the photographer; it is a textbook example of showing the story.

Thanks Bill, Bernie. Bernie I emailed you a query, hope you see it.

Neat, I recorded my vote (I was quite deliberate in doing it) but what happens after I click I don't know. I've emailed Bernie asking him to look into it. I've checked and yours was the only result which would have changed if my voting tabulated so really you should be showing as 3rd and I would be 4th.

Thanks for all your votes, I do think Neat's image should have been ahead of mine.

Picture-perfect composition - both yours and the skier's. The colours are almost neon in their intensity. The backlighting really adds another dimension.

johncomyn Excellent guess! You could be Watson to Mepo's Holmes. I'll try to post something more emotive in outtakes, but I am pleased to get your vote of confidence and that you saw this more as I intended which is to say more surreal than real.

Very science fiction, and perfectly taken. The exposure was a great choice, I'm sure the lighting to the human eye was way brighter. That being said, the only thing missing is emotion. Guessing this is Jade, still high in my favs

Michael, spring of 2016 (challenge #168) though technically these are different slopes entirely (I see your detective skills are as sharp as ever). Normally I would agree with you that things in action (or animals or people) should have space in front of them to give them a place to go/look but as I wanted to convey the sense of falling and add an element of tension as she is about to go out of the frame I opted to position her here (literally! - see outtakes).

Super shot. I'm certain both you and the skier must be very happy to have this. The light behind her (his) head is perfect. The only thing I would have done would be to crop away the area behind the skier which does not add any interest and add some ahead so the skier has somewhere to go. Absolutely great image of the skier. Am I right in thinking the last time we saw these slopes was in Spring 2013?

aoc Actually yes night skiing is long established and a much different experience. Night racing is less common but still happens. If I recall a Canadian won Olympic gold in the moguls at night under the lights. This however was a day shot which I intended as an interpretive surreal dream, but alas, maybe still a little too real.

Great shot - very dramatic! Do people really ski in the dark?

I do want to say I was going to call this Night Dreams since skiers dream of things like this but in the end wanted not to go too surreal. I will post the original in outtakes, shot in bright daylight.

Bill The lighting is all PP but I thought it worked for the surrealistic effect I was trying for But alas, maybe too grounded in reality.

RobertLavker Appreciate the vote of confidence! I was very unsure whether this one would work.

SteveBee Always wanted to get a Wow from you so I am very flattered.

jomari I thought the flare was a nice touch too, faked but realistic enough.

ysal So far yours is the only comment noting the degree of pp efforts but surreal bordering on real and high impact was the attempt so I'm glad it worked as intended with you.

Maike The actual original skier image was taken with a panning motion rather close in (12-15 feet , 4-5 meters) so I'm glad it worked. Appreciate the comment; without a tack sharp skier the image would not work.

Neat If I get to shoot good stock shots consistently I will be satisfied. Lots to learn. Really appreciate your comments coming from a pro.

Great action shot. Great exposure. I love that pink ring flare, (natural or added, doesn't matter).

Iím not sure how much of this is a result of post processing but the result is spectacular. Not the most natural looking image but high impact shot.

Wow. What a fantastic shot. And with a camera I would not have associated with a great sports action shot, or a great night shot. Just goes to show that it's the skill of the photographer that counts. Very impressive.
