  #184 Solitude
Entry 3 of 25

an evening cast       ©2017 rd52
Canon EOS 7D       3rd place, 137 points
1/200s, f9, ISO 320, 26mm, Aperture Priority, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: shot as a raw, tweaked, cropped, in Rawtherapee, saved as a tiff. In Affinity Photo smudged and painted the blown out highlight, cloned out a bit of water that was over the brim that was bright and I felt was a distraction. Sized and saved as a jpeg for the challenge.       Extra Info: A fisherman on an empty beach angling just before nightfall.

mrsawyer, not really, I darkened the whole picture. It was pretty dark there all ready. I think there was a slight step between the dry sand and the water. It was a fairly high tide, right up to the step. I darkened the pic to try and recover the blown hi-lights of the sun.

Hey Rick, I meant to ask about your 3rd place entry in #184, is that deep shadow at the bottom of your photo all natural, or did you darken it for some reason?

Getting my congrats in late. Right on theme.

Well done! The somber tones nicely reinforces the sense of solitude. Might prefer a crop that puts the figure a bit lower in the frame, maybe with a little more sky.

Definitely projects a peaceful mood, with the shades of lavender, and and the darkness of the sand. The figure is well placed to balance the soft sunset.

The muted evening colours add to the feeling of solitude. In my tt.

Catches the mood, with a hint of sunset to balance it out.

A great shot. I wish the fisherman and left side of the image was a bit brighter, otherwise it works well.

Suits to the topic, but the foreground looks too dark in my display.

Time of the day adds to the sense of solitude. I like the man in silhouette which complements the dark sand.

I think it would be better with just a bit more brightness, but certainly shows solitude.
